The phosphonium salt [PhP((NHPr)-Pr-i)(3)]Br has been synthesized, and
the ligand properties of its deprotonated forms have been investigate
d. Treatment of its dilithiate Li-2[PhP((NPr)-Pr-i)(3)] with the dimer
[(eta-p-cymene)RuCl2](2) provides the unsaturated 16-electron cation
ene)Ru{eta(2)-((PrN)-Pr-i)(2)PPh((NHPr)-Pr-i)}](+) which adds cyanide
and carbon monoxide (reversibly) and has been structurally characteriz
ed as its tetraphenylborate salt.
