Bioaccumulation of five metals (V5+, Ni2+, Mo6+, Mn2+, Cu2+) and their
combinations in under- and above-ground parts of Sinapis alba plants
grown hydroponically was determined by using AAS analysis. From obtain
ed results it can be concluded that all individual metals, except Cu,
were accumulated in above-ground parts in higher amounts than in the r
oots. Especially high was the accumulation of Mo and Cu as well in roo
ts as in the hypocotyl. In metal-metal combinations, root accumulation
of vanadium was inhibited by Ni, Mn and Cu; accumulation of nickel by
Cu, molybdenum by V, Mn and Cu and manganese by Cu. None of the teste
d metals had any inhibitory effect on the accumulation of copper. In t
he hypocotyl accumulation of vanadium and molybdenum was inhibited by
all tested metals; accumulation of nickel was inhibited by Mo, Mn and
Cu, and copper by Ni, Mo and Mn. All tested metals enhanced manganese
accumulation. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
