Tracheal T tubes provide effective palliation of unresectable benign a
nd malignant tracheal obstruction, but placement may be difficult when
previous operation, radiation, or tumor limits surgical exposure of t
he cervical trachea. Percutaneous placement using commercially availab
le percutaneous tracheostomy kits may provide an alternative approach
in these cases. (C) 1998 by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
