Dp. Kamdem et al., FIELD PERFORMANCE OF CCA TYPE-C NON-PRESSURE-TREATED NORTHERN WHITE CEDAR (THUJA-OCCIDENTALIS L.) SAPWOOD, Forest products journal, 48(2), 1998, pp. 49-51
Round posts of northern white cedar (Thuja occidentalis L.) non-pressu
re-treated with a solution of 3 percent CCA type C were installed at a
test site in Austin Cary Forest near Waldo, Florida in November 1978.
When inspected in March 1996, samples with a CCA retention of 3.72 kg
/m(3) showed almost no decay and no evidence of termite attack. Untrea
ted samples and samples brush-coated with 3 percent CCA failed by the
12th year inspection. Samples with retentions of 1.21 or 0.80 kg/m(3)
CCA showed beginning signs of decay and termite damage after 18 years
of exposure.
