APPLICATION OF CAPILLARY ELECTROPHORESIS TO PROCESS MONITORING IN THEMANUFACTURING OF SEMISYNTHETIC PENICILLINS

Application of capillary electrophoresis to monitoring the concentrati on of material penicillin and the intermediates in the manufacturing p rocess of semisynthetic penicillins was investigated. Factors affectin g the precision of analysis were screened and optimised by orthogonal array designs. Compared to conventional HPLC methods, the capillary el ectrophoresis method gives better resolution and faster sample through put. Other advantages of the capillary electrophoresis method over HPL C methods include much less consumption of buffer solution and the abs ence of organic solvents in the analysis.
