G. Ozdemirler et al., PEROXIDATION STATUS OF ERYTHROCYTES AND APOLIPOPROTEIN-B CONTAINING LIPOPROTEINS IN HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIC SUBJECTS, International journal for vitamin and nutrition research, 67(2), 1997, pp. 130-133
Erythrocyte diene conjugate levels and glutathione peroxidase and supe
roxide dismutase activities were found unchanged in hypercholesterolem
ic subjects with plasma cholesterol levels above 240 mg/dl as compared
to normocholesterolemics (below 200 mg/dl). However, the susceptibili
ty of VLDL + LDL, apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins to copper-i
nduced peroxidation and plasma endogenous malondialdehyde levels were
increased in hypercholesterolemics. These results indicate that hyperc
holesterolemia is associated with increased susceptibility of VLDL + L
DL to lipid peroxidation.
