Zhm. Usman et B. Jaselskis, SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SILVERSULFADIAZINE IN PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORMS, Analytical letters, 31(1), 1998, pp. 147-154
A method for determining silver in silver sulfadiazine pharmaceutical
creams and ointments has been developed. Organic residues in the produ
cts are destroyed with sulfuric acid and nitric acid mixture. After ev
aporation of acids the silver is reduced with formaldehyde in alkaline
solution, pH 11 - 12.5, to the metallic state; which is then reoxidiz
ed at pH 3.5 with iron(III) in the presence of ferrozine. The resultin
g absorbance is measured at 562 nm. Average recoveries of 99.7 +/- 0.1
9 % and 99.6 +/- 0.12 % are obtained for the two pharmaceutical prepar
ations tested, respectively.
