Abstract
We study the index of refraction of a two-level atom replacing the usu ally applied coherent driving fields by a squeezed vacuum field. This system can produce a large index of refraction accompanied by vanishin g absorption when the carrier frequency of the squeezed vacuum is detu ned from the atomic resonance.
