Abstract
Non-linear normal modes and the associated frequencies of a uniform be am with simply-supported or clamped conditions at both ends have been derived. Some restricted orthogonality conditions have been pointed ou t. The effects of the longitudinal inertia on the non-linear transvers e motion are shown to be extremely small. The efficacy of using the no n-linear normal modes towards computation of near-resonance response h as been clearly brought out. (C) 1998 Academic Press Limited.
