Ca. Black et al., ACUTE NEUTROPENIA DECREASES INFLAMMATION ASSOCIATED WITH MURINE VAGINAL CANDIDIASIS BUT HAS NO EFFECT ON THE COURSE OF INFECTION, Infection and immunity, 66(3), 1998, pp. 1273-1275
We have used a mouse model of vaginal candidiasis to determine the eff
ect of neutrophil depletion on (a) the clearance of Candida albicans a
nd (b) the degree of inflammation associated with infection. No differ
ences in recoverable yeast number or rate of clearance were observed b
etween normal and neutrophil-depleted mice; however, vaginal inflammat
ion was significantly decreased in neutrophil-depleted animals.
