Abstract
Recent studies suggest the nature of the trauma, and the age, prior ex periences and psychopathology of the victim significantly influence th e psychiatric symptoms that emerge after a trauma. New findings have a lso confirmed and refined the role played by the hypothalamic-pituitar y-adrenal axis and hippocampus in the pathogenesis of stress. (C) 1998 Rapid Science Ltd.
