Abstract
The past year has seen significant advances in the cross-national comp arative epidemiology of schizophrenia, and affective, anxiety and soma toform disorders. Ethnographic, historic and epidemiologic work has re fined our notions of culture-related syndromes and idioms of distress. The cultural assessment and formulation outlined in the DSM-IV is dev eloping into a basic clinical tool for work in multicultural settings. (C) 1998 Rapid Science Ltd.
