Abstract
This article applies the finite element method to study characteristic s of forced and mired convection in an air-cooled room. Numerical solu tions are obtained in both the laminar and turbulent regimes. The comp uted thermal and flow fields and the distributions of kinetic and ther mal eddy energy as wed as their dissipations are presented. The result s show that air cooling is not effective in the laminar mired convecti on while in the turbulent flow the effect of air cooling is evident. F urther, it is better to calculate the turbulent Prandtl number in mire d convection flow by the thermal turbulence two-equation model.
