An automatic computer-operated precision comparator has been developed
and constructed to process single-tier, double-tier, and three-tier s
pectrograms and spectrointerferograms obtained on the apparatus of the
SP211-SP212 complex with three-tier entrance slits. The comparator ma
kes it possible to measure the distances between spectral lines and in
terference fringes both in the same and in adjacent spectra with high
accuracy; to measure the fractional part of an interference order; and
to automate the counting of interference fringes and the calculation
of the dispersion of optical materials. (C) 1998 The Optical Society o
