Abstract
This paper discusses the technological possibilities of fabricating th ree-layer light-weight mirrors from the composite ceramic material sil icon carbide-silicon. A filler made from a material with a reticulate- cellular structure with high porosity is used to reduce the weight cha racteristics of the design. High dimensional stability of the mirror i s ensured by the identity of the composition of the material in the vo lume of the three-layer sandwich. (C) 1998 The Optical Society of Amer ica.
