Abstract
The right of people with mental illness to refuse antipsychotic medica tion has become an increasingly ambiguous issue in part due to the fac t that there is no unifying definition,, legal or clinical, that defin es a person's competence to refuse medication. bb article outlines som e of the reasons why people with mental illness refuse medication, as well as factors that today result in difficulties, dilemmas, and ambig uity, for both practitioners and people with mental illness, in the pr oces of treatment.
