Transient phenomena of oxidative-carbonization propagation over a poly
meric surface with an additional energy deposition to the reaction zon
e is analyzed. A new phenomenon of bistability of reaction front propa
gation in non-self-maintaining carbonization modes is uncovered. The t
ypes of bifurcation phenomena are studied and the contribution to elec
trically induced carbonization of discontinuities (cracks) formed in t
he carbonaceous track of the wave in the course of stabilization of th
e thermal structures - reaction centers-propagation is ascertained.
