The advantages of using hysteresial techniques in flow control mechani
sms are demonstrated. The work scenario consists of a server transmitt
ing video information to a group of clients. To avoid overflow or unde
rflow in the buffer, the client sends control messages (feedbacks) to
the server which order adjustments to the transmission rate. Hysteresi
al techniques allow the minimisation of this signalling traffic. even
when there are rapid fluctuations in the buffer occupation.
