Abstract
A numerical analysis of a dispersion-managed 1550 nm soliton WDM syste m using standard singlemode transmission fibres is presented. Detailed investigations of a 200 km long system show that high capacity (> 30 Gbit/s) WDM transmission call only be realised by choosing a small ave rage dispersion. The authors further demonstrate that in this case, 'e rror free' transmission of 30 WDM channels over 1200 km of standard fi bre at a total bit rate of 450 Gbit/s is feasible.
