Abstract
The weak localization correction and the mesoscopic fluctuations of th e polarizability and the capacitance of a small disordered sample are studied systematically in two-dimmesional and three-dimensional geomet ries. While the grand canonical ensemble calculation gives the positiv e magnetopolarizability, in the canonical ensemble (appropriate for is olated samples) the sign of the effect is reversed. The magnitude of m esoscopic fluctuations for a single sample exceeds considerably the va lue of the weak localization correction. [S0163-1829(98)04707-9].
