B. Rubinsky et R. Davalos, THE USE OF EVOLUTIONARY-GENETIC ANALOGY IN NUMERICAL-ANALYSIS, Communications in numerical methods in engineering, 14(2), 1998, pp. 151-160
A new approach was developed for the analysis of problems of physics g
overned by laws of conservation. The methodology establishes an analog
y between various aspects of evolution and genetics of life processes
and inanimate physical systems. This analogy is then used to generate
solutions to physical problems in a similar way to which organisms in
nature solve problems imposed by environmental constraints. Finite dif
ference and finite elements approximations are used in the numerical i
mplementation of the method and a simple two-dimensional problem is so
lved to illustrate the method. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
