The paper reviews state of the art of a technique of direct aqueous in
jection (DAI) of samples into capillary columns. A classical procedure
, described by Grob. for determination of halogenoorganic compounds in
water based on direct aqueous injection (DAI-GC-ECD) is presented and
advantages and limitations of the technique are commented. New areas
of DAI method application are shown including determination of substan
ces for which solvent and gas extraction techniques are not effective.
DAI technique application can be extended to ''difficult'' samples af
ter their matrix simplification by distillation or a specified thin la
yer head space version in which an aqueous concentrate of organic poll
utants is produced.
