D. Asztely et al., GENERALIZED ARRAY MANIFOLD MODEL FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION CHANNELS WITH LOCAL SCATTERING, IEE proceedings. Radar, sonar and navigation, 145(1), 1998, pp. 51-57
The authors propose the use of a generalised array manifold for parame
terised spatial signature estimation in wireless communication channel
s with local scattering. The array manifold commonly used for point so
urces is generalised to include linear combinations the nominal array
response of vectors and their derivatives. The motivation behind this
idea is to obtain better estimates of the spatial signatures for direc
tion of arrival (DOA) based signal waveform estimation. The estimators
proposed exploit the orthogonality between the so-called noise and si
gnal subspaces, leading to a separable solution for the derivative coe
fficients. As a result, a search is required for the DOAs only. For un
iform linear arrays, the spatial signatures are shown to be approximat
ely Vandermonde vectors with damped modes, and a closed-form estimator
such as ESPRIT may be used in this case. Simulation examples are incl
uded to the signal compare estimation performance obtained using the p
roposed generalised manifold and the conventional array manifold.
