Abstract
Without access to viable expansion areas, the outlook for ensuring fut ure cane supplies and profitable milling operations would be poor for many sugar processors, For the South Johnstone mill, New South Wales, in the early 1990's, it was clear that expansion would depend on the d evelopment of an efficient long-haul road transport system, The new sy stem would need to maximise cane delivery, and minimise both road truc k delays, and operating costs, The innovative design that emerged from these considerations is described below.
