Abstract
Patient-triggered ventilation is a relatively recent development in ne onatal mechanical ventilation Advances in microprocessor-based technol ogy, transducers, and monitoring have enabled patient-driven ventilato r control and synchronization of mechanical ventilation with patient e ffort. The novelty of the newer ventilatory techniques has generated s everal controversies that remain to be resolved. Among these are signa l detection and transduction, the optimal ventilatory modes, and weani ng during patient-triggered ventilation.
