O. Sibony et al., IN-UTERO FETAL CEREBRAL INTRAPARENCHYMAL ISCHEMIA DIAGNOSED BY NUCLEAR-MAGNETIC-RESONANCE, Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, 40(2), 1998, pp. 122-123
Fetal brain damage can have many causes, the most common being possibl
y asphyxia which is often associated with intrauterine growth retardat
ion. Early recognition of cerebral lesions is important in guiding obs
tetrical management. A case of antenatal cerebral intraparenchymal isc
hemia diagnosed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) earlier than cereb
ral ultrasound examination is reported. This case report indicates tha
t NMR may be a useful tool for the early detection of cerebral impairm
ent in severe fetal growth retardation.
