In the case of caesium-implanted polyparaphenylene films (E = 30 keV;
10(15) ions cm(-2) < D < 5 x 10(16) ions cm(-2)), the magnetoresistanc
e (and also the thermoelectric) sign is clarified with the assistance
of the shape obtained for the density of states near levels associated
with doping effects or near levels induced by degradation effects. Th
e positive sign is attributed to Coulombic interactions whereas the ne
gative sign, related to localization effects, is the result of reducti
on in quantum interference due to the magnetic field.
