Ks. Koh et al., THE PREPARATION OF BATIO3 AND BA0.65SR0.35TIO3 POWDERS FROM COMPLEX ACETATE PRECURSORS, Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 32, 1998, pp. 1227-1230
Barium titanium (BT) acetate and barium strontium titanium (BST) aceta
te complex precursor solutions were synthesized in an attempt to produ
ce air and temperature stable complex precursor by first reacting tita
nium isopropoxide with acetic acid and then mixing the resultant solut
ions with barium and strontium acetate acetic acid solution. All alkox
ide groups in the titanium isopropoxide were found to be replaced by a
cetate ligands in first reaction and these acetate are directly bounde
d to titanium atoms. After suitable precipitation and filtering, new a
cetate complex precursor powder of barium titanium and barium strontiu
m titanium were produced. The thermal decomposition processes of metal
acetate complex precursor were studied by, IR, XRD and DTA(TG). Forma
tion of Ba2Ti2O5 . CO3 type intermediate phases were found during the
thermal decomposition, accompanied by direct crystallization to pseudo
-cubic BaTiO3 and Ba0.65Sr0.35TiO3 phase upon heating above 600 degree
s C.
