Piezoelectric and electrical properties of ceramics in the xPb(InNb)(1
/2)O-3-(1-x)PbTiO3 [PIN:PT(x)] system are described. A high dielectric
constant and remanent polarization were obtained for compositions nea
r the morphotropic phase boundary. In this system, the morphotropic ph
ase boundary is found to be located at the composition x = 62 mol% PIN
. For this composition, the dielectric constant is 2100 at room temper
ature and increases to 23500 at it's transition temperature of 280 deg
rees C. The remanent polarization is approximately 35 mu C/cm(2) and c
orresponds to a coercive field of 16 kV/cm. Finally, poled ceramics of
the morphotropic phase boundary composition posses a d(33) value of 3
95 pC/N, a d(31) of -175 pC/N and a k(31) of 30%.
