L. Osecka et M. Blatny, THE STRUCTURE OF THE GLOBAL RELATION TO S ELF - THE ANALYSIS OF ROSENBERG SCALE OF SELF-EVALUATION - THE REPLICATION, Ceskoslovenska psychologie, 41(6), 1997, pp. 481-486
The aim of the study was the replication of the analysis of the struct
ure of Rosenberg's scale of self-evaluation and the relationship of se
lfesteem factors and temperament and interpersonal characteristics con
ducted originally in the sample of university students. In the framewo
rk of a broader research project the Rosenberg's scale of self-evaluat
ion, Eysenck's Personality Inventory, and Leary's ICL were presented t
o the sample of 428 grammar-school students (184 boys, 244 girls, mean
age 16 years). As regards the selfesteem structure, the results are n
ot quite consistent with the previous research. Repeatedly, the factor
of selfesteem appeared, based on the comparison with others. On the c
ontrary, the extraction of the factors of positive and negative items
failed: they form a single bipolar factor in investigated sample of ad
olescents. The factor based on the social comparison is connected to d
ominance, extraversion, and emotional stability in both samples. The d
ominance mediates the influence of extraversion and emotional stabilit
y to the regression estimation of selfesteem in both the samples. In t
he sample of adolescents affiliation also contributed to the predictio
n of sefsteem.
