The study presents an investigation of the relationship between pathol
ogical attitudes to eating and personality in clinical subjects receiv
ing treatment for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Personality an
d eating attitudes' were assessed. Personality was addressed in the th
eoretical framework of the Big Five factor model. Correlation and hier
archical regression analysis revealed a significant contribution of pe
rsonality variables to eating attitudes. Neuroticism and extraversion
predicted diet behaviour and bulimic behaviour. The results are discus
sed in the context of recent research.
