L. Muthusubramanian et al., 2-(THIOCYANOMETHYLTHIO)-BENZOTHIAZOLE FUNGICIDE ON LEATHER - A REVIEW, Journal of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists, 82(1), 1998, pp. 22-23
Ten years ago the predominant fungicides used in the leather industry
were phenolic based. The availability of these products changes as new
active ingredients become available and as other products are conside
red unsuitable on environmental and health and safety grounds (often p
rohibited by legislation in specific countries). As a result of legisl
ation limiting the content of pentachlorophenol (PCP) in leather, fung
icides based on substituted benzothiazole activities such as 3-(thiocy
anomethylthio)-benzothiazole (TCMTB) were introduced and became more w
idely used.
