Abstract
The present report critically summarizes the epidemiologic research on depressive disorders in children and adolescents that have been carri ed out in different countries over the past 15 years. Twelve studies u sing the standardized diagnostic interview schedules were evaluated an d compared in terms of the prevalence and comorbidity rates, risk fact ors, and course and outcome of depressive disorders. Methodologic prob lems inherent in some epidemiologic studies in children and adolescent s were discussed. Recommendations for future studies were provided.
