The cell voltage for an electrochemical photovoltaic regenerative sola
r cell with current leads located on opposite sides of a cell unit was
measured for different values of the light intensity, 77-1360 W m(-2)
. The measured cell voltage was corrected for the voltage losses in th
e conductive glass and in the electrolyte. An empirical relation for a
nodic polarisation curve with three parameters, namely the limiting cu
rrent density, the formal exchange current density and open-circuit po
tential vs. light intensity was formulated. The evaluation of these pa
rameters is based on the chemical engineering description of a model c
ell. This description enables the transfer of the data to large module
s for outdoor applications. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
