Parkinson's disease is one of the most common neurological disorders o
f the elderly. However, several recent drug developments have been mad
e in the treatment of idiopathic parkinsonism (IF). The authors descri
be the most promising new drugs for treatment of the motor symptoms of
IF, briefly discuss two promising monoamine oxidase inhibitors and re
view the newer medications for the treatment of the psychiatric sympto
ms associated with IP. They also survey some of the future therapeutic
options in early stages of development.
