The decay parameters of Ru(phen)(3)(2+) and *Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) as a func
tion of temperature in H2O, CH3CN, and their mixtures are quite simila
r, and the reorganization energies for their electron-transfer quenchi
ng, whether reductive or oxidative, are virtually identical. The natur
e of the localization of the electron in the excited stares seems to h
ave no significant effect on the observed photophysics and electron-tr
ansfer quenching in fluid solution at or near room temperature.
