Abstract
Seeking common ground: On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, its president, M ildred S. Dresselhaus, notes that various AAAS efforts are aiming to a dvance the dialogue between researchers and the public in an effort to dispel the myth of the arrogant scientist who refuses to acknowledge the impact of his or her work on society.
