STATEMENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL-PEOPLES-TRIBUNAL ON HUMAN-RIGHTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT - SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

The following statement is intended as a contribution to the movement for a just world order and the creation of humane global governance. I t is embedded in the lives of individuals and groups throughout the gl obe who allege violations of law-including violence and killing-inflic ted upon them by transnational corporations, frequently in collaborati on with state institutions. This first session heard twelve presentati ons, for which we are providing interim comments; this is so the named perpetrators may have ample opportunity to respond to the charges and our comments. A final statement of this International Peoples' Tribun al on Human Rights and the Environment will be available in May 1998.
