Background Intumescent or hypermature cataracts sometimes mean a diffi
cult capsulorhexis. High frequency capsulotomy represents a satisfying
solution for this problem. Patients and Methods 26 patients with intu
mescent cataracts undergoing cataract surgery with high frequency caps
ulotomy were enclosed into this study. Clinical application of this te
chnique was examined intraoperatively and postoperatively. Results Onl
y in 4 patients out of 26 it was not possible to achieve a circular cu
t by capsulotomy. Residual bridges could be cut by scissors. Conclusio
ns High frequency capsulotomy means a convenient alternative to capsul
orhexis, while correct technique intraoperatively is extremely importa
nt for satisfying clinical results.
