I. Misselevich et al., STATUS OF INTRAOPERATIVE CYTOLOGY IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF EPITHELIOID HEMANGIOMA, Diagnostic cytopathology, 18(3), 1998, pp. 227-229
Whereas evaluation of the frozen section of a subcutaneous retro-auric
ular mass was equivocal, the correct diagnosis of epithelioid hemangio
ma could be suggested on examination of intraoperative cytological sme
ars. It is proposed that in the absence of cytological cues of maligna
ncy and in the presence of the proper clinical setting, the constellat
ion of vascular structures, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and clusters of
cuboidal cells with vacuoles in their abundant acidophilic cytoplasm i
s indicative of epithelioid hemangioma. (C) 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
