Various aspects of the cotton pest control in China are dealt with in
this paper, specially the historical and current status of chemical an
d biological control practices, the use of pheromones and the problem
with transgenic cotton. The importance of IPM for cotton in China are
also discussed: IPM remains the most important possibility that China
escapes from the Helicoverpa armigera crisis, bur it is very difficult
to become implemented because of the complexity of the IPM-technology
. A proposal for practical and not coo complicated IPM-technology base
d on our several years of experience on the cotton pest control is pre
sented in this paper.
