A new series of novel mixed-ligand complexes of copper(II) of the comp
ositions [Cu(o-haph)(2)(L)(2)]. 2H(2)O (where L = 3-methyl-2-pyrazolin
e-5-one (3-MP), 4-methyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one (4-MP), 3-methyl-1-phenyl-
2-pyrazoline-5-one (MPHP), 2,3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one (D
MPHP) and [Cu(o-haph)(2)(L-L)]. 2H(2)O (where L-L = 4-amino-2,3-dimeth
yl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one (ADMPHP) and -methyl-4-nitrobenzoyl-1-p
henyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one (MNBPHP) and o-haphH = o-hydroxyacetophenone)
, have been synthesized by the interaction of [Cu(o-haph)(2)]. H2O wit
h the said ligands. The compounds so obtained were characterized by an
alytical data, molar conductances, magnetic measurements, thermogravim
etric analyses, electron paramagnetic resonance, electronic and infrar
ed spectral studies. We conclude from the IR data that the ligands 3-M
P, 4-MP, MPHP and DMPHP behave as neutral monodentate oxygen donors wh
ile the ligands ADMPHP and MNBPHP behave as neutral bidentate (0,N) an
d (0,0) donors, respectively. Octahedral structures have been proposed
for these complexes.
