A single crystal of MnPS3, a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet wit
h a Neel temperature of 78 K, has been grown using a novel technique.
The crystal is large enough to carry out critical and inelastic neutro
n scattering experiments. Diffraction measurements on the PRISMA instr
ument at the ISIS facility reveal temperature-dependent rod-like scatt
ering at 100 K, well above the Neel temperature. These features are du
e to two-dimensional critical fluctuations. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science
