Abstract
We report the results of the measurements of the hysteresis behavior o f amorphous water-quenched and glass-covered wires exhibiting positive , negative and nearly zero magnetostriction. A special emphasis is des erved on their bistability, a phenomenon which is very important for t heir potential applications. The observed behavior is comparatively ex plained in terms of magnetoelastic anisotropy, which is related to int ernal stresses induced during preparation. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B .V.
