A theory of the antiferro-quadrupolar ordering in CeB6 is developed in
the frame-work of the Gamma(8)-quartet basis. Possible ordered phases
under the external magnetic field are classified in terms of their sy
mmetry properties. Using a mean-held approximation based on the group
theory, the stable quadrupolar phases are investigated for several int
ersite interactions of all the multipoles. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B
