We produced an amorphous a-UPd2Al3 bulk alloy and studied the effect o
f structure-disorder on heavy-fermion and superconducting properties o
f the crystalline c-UPd2Al3. In the AC susceptibility of a-UPd2Al3 bet
ween 0.4 and 40 K, a clear peak is detected at 3.4 K. However, no anom
alous behavior has been observed at the antiferromagnetic transition t
emperature of 14 K and the superconducting transition temperature of 2
K observed for c-UPd2Al3. The electrical resistivity of a-UPd2Al3 als
o shows no superconducting transition down to 0.4 K. The electronic sp
ecific-heat coefficient is estimated to be 195 mJ/K-2 mol from the spe
cific heat results between 4.8 and 15 K. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V
