In cooperation with the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the National I
nstitute of Standards and Technology (NIST) supervises; and administer
s two measurement assurance programs for radioactivity measurement tra
ceability. One, in existence since the mid 1970s, provides traceabilit
y to suppliers of radiochemicals and radiopharmaceuticals, dose calibr
ators, and nuclear pharmacy services. The second program, begun in 198
7, provides traceability to the nuclear power industry for utilities,
source suppliers, and service laboratories. The radiopharmaceutical pr
ogram is described and the results of measurements of samples of known
, but undisclosed, activity, prepared at NIST and measured by the part
icipants, are presented. NIST Radiopharmaceutical Standard Reference M
aterials (SRMs) are also produced as part of this program, and these a
re described. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
