Several kinds of polymer-supported quaternary salts, such as dimethyla
minopyridinium or tributylphosphonium salts, have been examined for th
e on-column preparation of [F-18]FDG. Factors affecting [F-18]fluoride
trapping efficiency and [F-18]fluorination yield have been optimized.
[F-18]Fluoride was practically, quantitatively trapped from flowing w
ater and the subsequent F-18-substitution was carried out on-column wi
th a radiochemical yield of over 70% (EOB). The improvement in the [F-
18]fluorination yield was achieved by introducing a spacer alkene chai
n between the supporting resin molecule and the catalytic site. A resi
n with higher cross-linkage and lower content of catalytic sites was s
hown to be useful for preventing column plugging. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sc
