Abstract
The Logical User Centred Interface Design (LUCID) method has been show n to provide a development approach which is both user-centred and whi ch, with respect to selected usability criteria, leads to the identifi cation of the optimum interface. Previously published evidence has foc used on factors internal to the design of the interface itself. In thi s paper, the authors show how Taguchi techniques for total quality man agement, which are integrated within the method, can be extended to an alyse external factors such as diversity within the user groups of sha red interfaces. Application of the method to global, international and local interfaces is discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
