Abstract
The magnetic phase diagram of single crystal thin films of Ho/Er alloy s has been determined by using neutron-scattering techniques. The resu lts show an unusual penta-critical point at which the paramagnetic, ba sal-plane helix, tilted helix, cycloid and longitudinally modulated ph ases are all stable, and a disordered isotropic phase which is complet ely surrounded in the phase diagram by phases with long-range order.
